The Costs

Quality accommodation in the desert
So what will it all cost me?

How long is a piece of string?

The costs can vary very dramatically depending on your choice of motor, number of breakdowns, choice of accommodation, and general spending habits.

Hotels and hostels are available in Central Asia for under 10 USD per night. You will not get any extras for this price, but it includes a bed, and usually a roof above you. Meals can be found for similar prices.

For the more discerning traveller, there are expensive options too in most places.
Petrol prices vary too. European petrol stations will charge you similar prices to the UK, whilst the Ukraine and USSR offer fuel that is even cheaper than Oren's haircut (incredible…).   Latest information we have suggests that the oil price is taking its toll however.  Kazakhstan is apparently at an all-time high of 20p per litre, whilst Ukraine and Russia are in some areas exceeding 50p per litre.  Truly shocking.

The cost of beer along the route is generally cheap, but that depends of course on the quantities you consume!

Visas:

British nationals traveling the recommended route will require visas in advance for the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan.

The cost of these is included in the entry fee.

Holders of foreign passports, please contact us for visa details.
Entry fee

There is an entry charge for The Tashkent Rally. This will cover the costs of visas, maps, books, administration and awards. Each team will receive:

  • Visas for the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan.
  • London Tashkent stickers for the car.
  • Maps covering non European bits
  • The relevant Guide Books.

The entry fee for 2010 is £300 per person, assuming the embassies don't stick their prices up again (which they seem to do on an annual basis!).

For those continuing to Mongolia the fee will be £500pp to reflect the added costs of the Mongolian visa and dual entry Russian and Kazakhstan visas.

Participating people will be required to send in their passports well in advance for the processing of the required visas, which can be a lengthly process. Details and timetables will be posted after registration of interest.

Details of how to pay the fee will be sent to you after you register your interest.
