About the trip and the organisers

A bit about us
Clemo_pic.jpg
Clemo
Name: Clemo
Role: Chief Unorganiser / Mankini Tester
A bit of background:

Clemo entered the banger rallying scene taking part in the Plymouth-Dakar Challenge in a pikey G-reg Ford Transit van with a decked beer garden on the roof. Whilst this made for fantastic al fresco pot noodling it added a futher £800 to the journey and is now a dog kennel in Gambia. Building on the quality of pikey-van-runnings to Gambia, Clemo re-ran to Gambia in the PDC, as group-leader this time. Clemo became distinguished as the only group leader ever to break down and not complete the rally in his own vehicle. This quality carpet-fitters wreck van is now being used as a dog kennel in Mauritania. He then freeloaded the next 1300 miles with Mike, (Chief Unorganiser of the Northern Territories) who is un-co-organising this little jaunt. After that he took part in the London Tashkent (year two) and also organised The Full Monte 7 day race to Monaco and back.

Jools
Name: Julian Nowill
Role: The Godfather of Banger Rallying
A bit of background:

Julian is the man responsible for inventing a new kind of tourism. In the past, people who drove across continents were considered to be eccentric millionaires and/or hardened explorers. Julian has shown the world that this is simply not the case and in fact all you need is a sense of adventure and an MOT failure. In the current political climate we find the world in, Julian's attitude to travel is a breath of fresh air in times of increasing xenophobia and narrow mindedness towards countries off the beaten track.
Julian is basically a big kid. His teenage years have never quite ended, and he is intent to break as many rules as he can, and having as much fun as he can while doing so. Every law seems to have a loophole and every accepted truth is there to be proven wrong.
Initiating the Plymouth-Dakar was Julian's first big project, and the London-Tashkent was next in line. No Central Asian revolution or West African war is going to deter him. No Mechanical disaster or electrical melt down is going to stop him. Julian Nowill can now be considered if not the Bernie Ecclestone of Banger Rallying, certainly the Carl Benz.

Oren
Name: Oren Paynton
Role: Computer setter-upper

A bit of background:

Oren entered the banger rallying scene two years ago with a spectacularly bad car - a Volvo 340 saloon which Oren carefully set up to obtain the worst fuel economy possible from a small Volvo. Building on the brick like aerodynamics that the spliff toting Dutchies originally designed the car with, Oren found that by placing two seats on the roof and running the tyres underinflated he could use about as much fuel as a seven litre V8 with a hole in the fuel line. Coupled with a non functioning fuel gauge, this was a truly inspired choice of car to drive to Africa. The following year, Oren successfully completed the Plymouth Dakar again, this time as a group leader. His choice of vehicle this time was a Mercedes 230CE, which was lowered, especially for those tricky desert crossings, and was just as suitable as the first. For the first London Tashkent, teaming up with Julian, he drove what was a very disappointing chioce of car, well known for it's reliability and mainstay of any minicab businesses - the Nissan Sunny diesel. We hope that for the upcoming events Oren will return to form.
Oren's personality can generally be categorised as extremely laid back and unflappable, with appaling taste in rally cars. He shares Julian's highest regard for the law, and will generally try anything 'just to see if it can be done'.
